Top Picks: Korean Movies

Come on. You really dont need an explanation for this... They are movies...from korea...

Man From No Where

A few years ago I was on Netflix (a friends, I don't care for Netflix) and ran across this little jewel. The story is basically kid gets kidnapped, ex "soldier" goes on killing spree to save kid, its not that new, and Im sure everyone of use can think of another. Its a well done story, its dark, its dirty, and its fun and its sad (tears), its great. The MC is the silent type, but he is also the direct no compromising type (you know, the BADASS type), mix in an adorable little girl who's only parent is a drug addicted prostitute who clearly doesn't care that much for her, and you get gold.

The Thieves

LOL. I really didn't know what to expect from this, but within the first half hour its clear we were looking at something close to "The Italian Job" or Oceans movies. Then as the movie goes you get into it, you start to go with the wave and just when you get comfortable and think you know whats going to happen... BOOM! The movie throws you off big time, I mean, there I was enjoying myself, feeling the end approaching and the movies feeling drifting out of me slowly. Then I end up hearing myself say "Oh shit!!" totally did not expect what happened. Its an amazing movie, if you like the previous movies mentioned (Italian job and Oceans) then you definitely will enjoy this.

A Werewolf Boy

The best werewolf story ever, I love werewolves and there are far to few shows/movies depicting them in a truly enjoyable way. This movie brought a nice, subtle, hard reminder that not only are werewolves people to, but that they adorable. That really feels like the wrong word when describing a young boy of his age, but its just how he acts and everything, makes me think of someone much younger, which is clearly a result of his abandonment at a very young age. Theres not a lot of action, its not a chase film, or hunt one, its not a big adventure (at least in the common sense), its more slice of life, and that works.

Jeon Woo-chi: The Taoist Wizard

Ok, so finally I get around to a movie with magic. This was a fun movie, you first start off in ancient times, but soon they delightfully throw you into modern times. The MC's attitude about the time shift, and their "way" of doing things is often hilarious although it leaves you wanting even more of the same. The action/combat is good, seems more fun and laugh worthy than serious though. Finally the romance aspect found in here is a bit... I guess rushed? Or perhaps I just feel like they should have done more with it.

These are not all the Korean movies I enjoyed, and there might even be one or two I liked a ton that I forgot about when putting together this list, but these are all very good still. I admit, I need more Korean movies in my life.
You know, if you, or your friend, are not fond of subtitles (or don't speak Korean) you can always give the movie "Snowpiercer" a try.

Top Picks: OPMC Translations (Light Novels)

Over Powered Main Character (OPMC for short): Is a genre of anime where the main character is more powerful then anyone else. Usually avoiding the power up/training stages popular in shounen.

Death March kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku

Love Tama and Pochi, definitely my favorites.

ATM V13CH15. I read the web novel, not the light novel (I did try the light novel translation but... I did not like the changes, felt like they made it far to "generic"). The story is a nice slice of life story about a guy that is pretty much a god, its not about saving the world, or life and death, or any urgent event, its all about travel, inventing and fun. The main character does end up with a harem easily, but its a nice harem as the MC does not like "little girls" and has no real interest in anyone in his harem. Whats great is its proven true by his love found later on in story, which is the big break from a normal harem, thats what makes it so perfect. The girls are more like his family then anything, Tama and Pochi (my favorite little two) are like his daughters. The main characters "OP-ness" is obvious sort, the story reminds you often enough by his nonchalant attitude about things.

World Teacher

Our main character is the black haired one.

ATM CH.32. The biggest disappointment with this is the slow translation, its not that I blame or hate them for it, its just that Im dying for new chapters, d.y.i.n.g.. The story's main character is reincarnated, in his previous world he was an old well trained assassin (I think). In the new world the story follows him from... THE WOMB! Haha. Yes from birth. Its not bad, its actually very nice slow good start to story that introduces you to stuff. The main character uses his other world knowledge to train magic (imagine training) and his body. The best part of this series is the main characters maturity, he doesn't act like a kid, he even takes in two children and makes them his disciples (he was a teacher in the other world). The main character does have some restrictions that make him fall short of being a god, but his use of what magic he has makes him pretty close, which is great.

Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken

Can you pick out the MC from the pic???

ATM CH.120. Im still not finished with this one. Its your standard "I REINCARNATED INTO ANOTHER WORLD!!" story, if by standard you mean wake up as a monster not a human and have no idea wtf is going on. Its a nice change from standard stories of the same ilk, sadly though it devolves into a fairly standard story pretty far in. Its not that I dislike how the story becomes, as its still a good story with lots of world/city building and organization and event moderation (basically a slice of life alternate world type), but I miss how new and different it was in the beginning before it became basically like a normal "reincarnated as a human" type story. That said try it out, its probably my least liked of all the ones here but its still good. The story is mainly about learning new skills (learned same way as many others, by experiencing the skill), getting stronger (though he starts with an OP skill that makes him OP from start) and building a society. Its not to heavy on details concerning construction or technologies or anything really, so if you like details best stay away and pick up another, but if you like light hearted fantasy world building then this would suit you perfectly.

Yobidasa Reta Satsuriku-sha

Most amazing, badass, awesome hero summon story ever!

ATM CH.31. Like World Teacher, this one suffers from a lack of chapters, but it does have more than World Teacher, I still need to catch up. Now Im going to say, I have reread this twice so far, I really love the main characters personality, hes direct and to the point. I mean when summoned to another world the MCs first order of business is to put a sword to the throat of the summoner and threaten to kill for the crime of kidnapping him from his world. I don't do that scene justice, trust me its better than I describe. This story is all about the MC, any and everything he encounters only serves to be destroyed by him, or used by him, which is great, as his goal is to basically "improve" war and combat basically. Now, now, Im not saying he is heartless, he doesn't like killing innocent bystanders or anything, but if you attack him you die, if you get in his way he will warn you, then kill you. Hes simply a direct no bullshit MC who doesn't care what you think. That character attitude, that almost "bad guy" feel to the main character is the main reason I LOVE this. There is more to the story of course, theres some world building (the MC introducing his weapons/techniques and even technologies), and theres a steadily increasing harem (theres no romance or harem focus though).

The Man Picked up by the Gods

Sorry for the pic, theres really no illustrations for this.

ATM V4CH3. Long title, and it doesn't really properly depict the story within. Imagine the shittiest life possible, then imagine finally dying and being freed from it (in your sleep at that!), how nice would it be if some gods from the other world near by pick you to solve a little problem they have? Our MC gets the chance, and even meets the gods and has a discussion with them, hes not the first, nor will he be the last. They help him out with some gifts (abilities) but turns out he starts out with a huge amount already! The story is good, the MC is a bit childish and lacking but overall its more about what hes doing and other characters then himself. The main feature of this fantasy world story would be the MC using slimes for everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. Anyway, the story doesn't have a demon king (suppose to already be long and gone) or any other great overall arch, even the gods themselves tell the MC to live his life. The stories focus is on creation, building, being a business man comes to mind, though he really just invents new things and comes up with new ideas based on our world. The MC even keeps in contact with the gods, has a party with them every week (I think it was weekly anyway) and befriends them. Lots of details and thinking in this one, not a whole lot of combat (I think you might see a trend of OPMC novels).

Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou

Seems more fan art, when i read this light novel the MC looked more badass, and the tech (his arm) was more magical and medieval.

ATM CH.123. Starts slow, takes about five to ten chapters to really get to the good stuff. This story has a badass MC who will stop at nothing to protect those close to him, though that doesn't include his former classmates he came to the new world with. There is an overall story and sense of impending doom, despite the MC and his group ignoring it for the most part for their own goals. The story focuses more on adventure and travel so far, and a bit of side inventiveness, it was more the opposite in the beginning, but slowly switches later on. I must say that the most memorable lines from a character are from this translation, the character (not the MC) was being tortured for information (beaten) and instead of anything else he taunts the torturer calling him names, telling him why he punches like a little girl, telling him to do it harder, etc. Its hilarious and something I will always remember when ever I read or watch a torture scene anymore. The MC is OP more so for his inventions than his own abilities (though his own abilities are nothing to scuff at). The "OP-ness" of the MC drops off in later chapters, much to my disappointment, as new enemies seem to appear that cause trouble. Don't get me wrong, he keeps on ticking and comes back stronger, I just really hope its not the start of a standard trend of powering up, which would ruin the entire thing for me.

To keep up with all my current readings I use a combo of rainmeter rss I made, and a site which I plan to review at some point called Novel Updates. The site is also great for just finding new stuff to read. There are other light/web novels and translations I have read that should have made it to this small list, but I have trouble remembering some from before Novel Updates was discovered. That said stories often found on WuxiaWorld ARE NOT OPMC STORIES. Stuff like BTTH, ISSTH, ATG, TDG, these are more shounen, yes the are "OP" when compared to their own generation, but thats it, they still constantly need to power up, they constantly challenge new more powerful enemies and they even loss and run away at times.

Top Picks: Anime Torrent Sites

Anime torrent sites are easy access websites with torrent files that allow for file sharing of anime. This is the easiest way to assemble an anime collection, or find anime in high quality.

Bakabt

I destroyed my ratio on bakabt, it was my first anime torrent site, and my first private tracker. Oh the regrets...

I have been a long time user of bakabt, from my young days I incurred a horrible ratio and from that day on I had to make due with the public trackers. I do encourage everyone and anyone into anime to be a member of this site, even if you dont download, or torrent anime. This site has amazing fans and a good comment system, this means that you can find great info and opinions about different anime all while enjoying screen shots, and info regarding that anime. Thats not the only reason though, theres also the search system, which is the best I have ever seen, allowing me to find a ton of anime that I would have otherwise over looked. OMG, also because only members can upload, and because the site only accepts certain content/complete series THERE ARE NO FAKE TORRENTS/VIRUSES HERE.

As I said before, the anime pages (where you download from) have lots of info, but its still very easy to navigate. This torrent has one design for its page, with its own screen shots. On each download page you will find the torrent link at the top, as one big green bar with the torrent name and size inside.

While this one has a completely different design for its page and different screen shots. Not to mention that a series is broken up into seasons for easy to download chunks. Also, many season will have different qualities to choose from, like 720p, or 480p, or even 1080p sometimes can be found. Allowing you to choose which ever you need.

Nyaa

Nyaa has a "fap" section. Yea, your guess is right. Bakabt doesn't even try to hide it that much.

Nyaa is my go to place for ongoing anime releases/episodes. You can find batch releases and entire seasons of anime, but this place is better served to finding single episodes or movies, or the most recent releases. You can use the search function, but its best to first scroll down and click on a purple tag that says "Anime Sub", these are the eng subbed anime, by clicking this first you will show only eng subbed works, and then if you search it will search only the eng subbed worked instead of all the others (including other language subs). I'm not sure if I even have a Nyaa account, as you can download the turrents without one (and I never do use one). That said the site runs much like a normal torrent site, there are some fakes and bad turrets (though very few from what iv seen) the users are quick to clean up bad ones.

As you can see, it gives you a nice simple interface for torrent information. The description can include images, which is nice, but most uploaders dont use it (I imagine because this isnt a place you go to find new anime, so much as find things your already looking for).

Animetorrents

My least liked of the options here, found this while using asiatorrents.me, still prefer other options.

This site I have used rarely, mainly due to its association to Avistaz.to (previously asiatorrents.me) I tried it out. Its a good site, easy to search through, though its a private tracker and requires you to register (free). It works in a very similar way to Avistaz (if you have used it) and Bakabt, it tracks your upload and download and gives bonus points. It works like a poor version of Bakabt, with the exception of my favorite part being the latest torrents found near bottom of main page. Here it shows the latest torrents (lol yea I know "Duh"), but it shows them as images with title, category, seeds, and leachers displayed. If they allowed browsing this way then it might take me away from bakabt more, but it doesnt. Aside from that, the main reason I use this is for torrents bakabt has placed on their "do not upload" list.

Like I said previously, the site is kinda a watered down version of bakabt. The download page has the relevent information and pictures, including screenshots, and even has comments near bottom, but it does so in a much less aesthetically pleasing way and with much less customization.

haruhichan

Im really new to this one.

Not much to say here, im new to this site, but I am liking it so far. The main reason I use this site instead of sticking to my main staple of just Nyaa, and Bakabt (seriously I use them all the time) is because this site allows for simple single episode download while at the same time putting all the different episodes together. It still gives your basic information for the anime, and offers different resolution choices. A feature that separates this is the IRC downloading, its done in a simple and easy to access way, which allows for an almost direct download type option.

The search is what was missing from Animetorrents, its a full anime list with pictures, sadly many pictures are missing but its still fun to look through, and a great help when searching for something familiar without looking through each page. When you use the search box and type in say "Gundam" it will popup all anime with the word "Gundam" in it, and shows them as pictures as it normally does.

The single funnest part of using this site, the calendar. Though im not sure when, or how they update or pick which anime to show on the chart, what I do see is a nice number of listings of popular and new anime with a countdown till torrent release, WITH PICS! Yes, I realize Im obsessed with the pictures. Plus when you click on an anime on the calendar, it will open (in a separate window) the anime torrent page for easy download.

[END NOTES]

Top Picks: Korean Drama

Korean Drama (k-drama): A form of T.V. serial made in South Korea, often short full written stories with endings. Western series tend to continue till they stop making money, so the story never ends. However K-drama has a set story, and only goes so far as to tell it, often leading to 20 or so episodes only.

Panda And Hedgehog

A love story, with a mysterious past, a quest for revenge and best of all, PASTRIESSS!!!! The creativity shown in this show makes you want to make pastries or find one of these shops (I live in a rural area :( ). The main characters are fun to watch and enjoyable to see together, and the cooking that takes place is also tasty.

City Hunter

A story all about revenge, which leads to love and a battle of right and wrong with morals. You have a highly skilled/trained man, dishing out revenge by finding those responsible for his fathers betrayal, and instead of killing he finds it in himself to bring them to justice by bringing their bad sides into the public light. Hes also hiding his identity as he gets a day job at a national network security center (blue house). Theres many funny moments as the love story is between him and a presidential bodyguard.

Holyland (2005)

This story, is similar to the manga Tiji-kun, you have a guy who masters an attack, and only that attack but is soon forced to learn others under pressure. Make no mistake, I said similar not the same, they are both very different, for one Holyland is very realistic with its fights, and has a deeper meaning rooted in reality as well. Its a fantastic tv show. There is also another Holyland (I think spelled with two words instead of one) that was made in 2012, its a newer remake of this, but I have not see it yet.

The Strongest K-POP Survival

The guy on the bottom has no idea the guy on top of him is actually a girl, lol.

This story has amazing and fun music, and a crazy love story where a girl is pretending to be a guy, and a guy falls for her thinking shes a guy and goes a little crazy thinking hes gay (Coffee prince is another good one). I love the struggles she goes through to keep her secret while living with a bunch of other guys and trying to survive training to become a star.

My Love From Another Star

This is the latest Korean drama I have watched, and it blew my mind. Its a scifi love tale between a 400 year old alien and an aging actress who resembles someone he knew in his past. Its a touching love story with the fun of super powers (time stopping and more) and a mysterious rich man working as a professor. Things get real crazy as people try to kill the actress, and once or twice try to kill him. The ending was amazing, and surprising.

Healer

This one is a secret favorite of mine. It has the fun story vibe of Panda and Hedgehog while have that fake, and hilarious "forbidden" love interest of one of the main characters all the while keeping that warm feeling in my heart. As the title tells, this story centers around a particular business involving mainly coffee, a small cafe, and a mans mission to not, lol, loss his fun and happy go lucky life style as his grandmother requires he either gets married, or is successful. Our two main characters happen to meet before this dilemma. In the obvious fun manner our main girl is taken as a guy, and used by our main guy to pose as gay to avoid marriage interviews.

I have watch a bunch more than this, but these are some of the more memorable ones I have watched.

Top Picks: OPMC Manga

Over Powered Main Character (O.P.M.C. for short): Is a genre of anime where the main character is more powerful then anyone else and thus never needs to train or anything else in order to win. This genre is not well known right now, but has always been extremely popular in manga and anime (Trigun for example was an OPMC anime), and is slowly gaining recognition.

Noblesse

One of two web manga on this list, Noblesse is definitely my favorite, I have read it two and half times (the half meaning I skipped some chapters here and there to get to the parts I like). Theres vampires, werewolfs and best of all humans trying to gain power as great as theres via experiments using technology. It gets even better with doctor Frankenstein as one of my favorite side characters ever showing up in this manga. Rai is our badass OP character who gives out beating after beating with a grace never before seen, and its hilarious. Also, its fully colored.

Dendrobates

Do you ever get sick and tired of the old hate killing hero types, I do, in fact I have come to really hate them as its done far to often, but in Dendrobates theres no issue there. This guy is an assassin for hire, his price doesn't really matter, I think he just really enjoys killing assholes. Also, did I mention the guy works in the police involved with evidence, so he literally has unlimited access to a ton of weapons, and the guns always come back to him, he is the man with a thousand guns.

Aiki

This is for adults (seriously full sex, ecchi, nudity). I love this manga, I have read it about two times fully, its a fun ride (theres also a sequel that is ongoing). The main character is a super genius and master of martial arts, and has a twisted personality that is crazy. He does go through a little tiny bit of power up, but its not really a power up, and its super short so I dont count it. You follow this guy as he trains a girl, and slowly gains his own little group, and people for the most part have no wish to challenge him, hes just to powerful. The story is great, its worth reading at least 10 times.

Shina Dark

A super not well known manga that is so amazing it deserves more then it ever got. It never actually ended, it just stop, like it was canceled. It follows the whole Maou-sama thing, he gets resurrected based on a timeline, when he awakens his island is revealed, its called "shina dark". The world is really cool, a mix of medieval/ancient and scifi, sadly what we see so little of everything due to how short it all is. I have read this one two times already, and im getting ready for a third.

Tiji-kun

Another short manga, but this one (THANK GOD) is complete, and it was well done. I love the main character of this manga, and as to not spoil to much let me just say his dream is to protect the dreams of everyone else. This follows an individual only known as "tiji-kun", a martial arts master that defends the weak, and he does it in the blink of an eye, no one ever sees him hit you. I said the manga was well complete and well done, but I do wish more from the end, but it was still good. Also, he does a tiny bit of training to power up near the end, but aside from that he is definitely OP.

Ubel Blatt

Another anime for adults, adults, oh did I say adults? Btw, I dont say adults on the grounds of violence in anyway, I do it on grounds of sex, just fyi. Anyway this story is epic, and I mean epic in the awesome, AND length categories, and thats not a bad thing. The story is well told, lots of history to the tale, and lots of emotion in the characters. This is a dark story, theres mostly no comedy relief, or happy times going on, and still manages to be a good read.

Black Haze

Sorry, myanimelist didn't have this.

Another Full colored web manga! A magic society, with ranks for mages, where our main character is a top ranked mage who is well known and famous. He also happens to be younger then anyone could imagine, and thus his boss has him go to school (lol, love that guy) as an undercover body guard to a kid. You have to understand, its a magician school, so our main character has no issue with classes, he already knows everything. Dont worry, its not about school bullies long, its more about whats after the person hes protecting and the craziness that ensues.

I still feel I need to say this...
Mangas like one piece, naruto, bleach and so on are not OPMC, they are your basic shounen battle manga of constant power ups and training.

I have a great love for this kind of manga/anime, I have used this list Male Protagonist That Starts Out Strong for a while, its good.

Top Picks: Serious Anime

Serious Anime: An anime where it takes itself very serious, and has a deep, or serious story. Normaly these would be limited to seinen, as it targets an adult audience while shoujo, and shounen targets children and teens.

Kurozuka

Kurozuka is a fairly unknown anime, though I have no idea why, its one of the best anime out there, it has ancient japan, future japan, vampires, scientific experimentation of vampires, a kick ass main character, and, the cherries on the top, a love story and mystery. The dark world looks fantastic, the action is well done and fun to watch. The only thing this story might need is to have started sooner in one of the main characters previous "lifes" so that we could see more.

Ghost In The Shell

I should warn, not all ghost in the shell are equal, mostly im referring to the "Arise" movies and their series "alternative architecture". These are newer and they have a different feel to them. This series is more about thinking, philosophically, strategically, and probably morally. Don't let that trick you though, this is a top scifi creation, plenty of action and cool gadgets/tech to look forward to. The world looks amazing and shows so many different nooks and crannies of it. This anime is also considered a classic, on par with Akira (which is another serious anime you MUST watch).

Darker Than Black

This anime is different in how it arranges itself, the episodes are doubles, so episode one and two are one story, three and four another, and so on. This makes it less of a series and more of multiple movies all thrown in one collection, which isnt a bad thing. The story is nice, and really unique, one not really seen anywhere else. The main character is a hired gun for an organization (he does all kinds of jobs), hes great at his job and has a personality that says he gives no fucks. Many people in this anime have special abilities, with side effects, which really make it interesting to see what they must do after using the ability. The world is dark, not always art wise but just in general. The show can feel slow, as its not all action packed, its a more mild speed anime, but the action is great.

Speed Grapher

Another lesser known anime, and as iv said about all these, its a dark, very serious, and has a nice twist of super powers. This anime invovles a stripper/prostitute along side our main character, if that helps tell you something. The girl's dna awakens abilities in certain people, our main character was lucky enough to be one of these and his power allows him to blow shit up when looking through the focus of his camera. Shit gets real as special powered people keep showing up for this girl. The story does have its fun moments, but its definitely worthy of a slot here.

Zetman

I wasn't sure whether to put this up or not, it is fairly serious (manga way better btw) but the anime cuts certain things out to allow for a younger age. Its still good, but not nearly as dark as it should have been given the manga. Our main character is not human, he was in fact created to kill non-humans. He was stolen and raised in secret in a homeless group. Needless to say people die left and right around this guy. I put this up here still mainly because it has so many sad moments that make it feel dark.

Terror in Resonance

Theres no super powers in this one. WHAT!!! Yea, its a great anime though, here we have two main characters who set out bombing tokyo as a form of revenge. They have an awesome background that is slowly revealed in the series and adds to the seriousness of their imposing bombings. They post youtube videos prior to each bombing with a riddle (they are geniuses) that the police scramble to solve. Buts lets not forget the organization that shows up after these two. The point is the story is a fun ride with great jumps.

Iriya Summer of UFOs

Oh, my, fucking, god, why... its not that I wish I didn't watch this, its that it made me feel so sad and fucked up inside that I fear watching it again. This story is one of the saddest love stories I have ever seen, its a scifi with aliens (or so we assume) attacking the planet and one girl left to defend them. She goes to school, that's where she meets our main character is a boy who ends up saving the girls life by giving her some medicine during an attack (one giant needle in her heart). This is a physiological roller coaster that will stab your heart with a giant fucking needle over and over and over till theres nothing left of that pin cushion.

Witch Hunter Robin

I havent actually watched this anime in a while, its a bit older (as our the rest on the list). The story and super powers are the best in this anime, I absolutely love this story. Its how human kind (or japan) reacts to the surprising awakening of "witches" in the world, these are ordinary people who suddenly gain a super power, usually they go insane. We follow our main character Robin who joins a group who is in charge of capturing witches. Human rights questions will pop up in your mind, how far will people go to "feel" safe, and whats really moral.

Wolf's Rain

This story is an iffy one to put up here, as it does have a bit of lightheartedness to it, but the core story is definitely dark. The story is a post apocalyptic one with dome cities where people live. Our main characters are wolves, in this world wolves and other animals have the ability to appear human to humans (though not physically change). Theres even some questioning on the origin of man and how they might have evolved from wolves. Our wolves are searching for a way to paradise, a place where only wolves can enter.

Akira

I mentioned this one earlier, this is a movie, no series, and theres even been rumors of a someone making a live action adaption. Physic powers and scifi society are the best parts of this story, but the only ones with physic abilities are few and under watch by the military. This is one of the iconic movies of anime, and I promise its a great serious story worth every minute.

Yes, I did go a bit over board, once I started adding a few I just couldn't bring myself to stop, this is a often requested type, and a type hard for most people to understand what is being asked.

Top Picks: OPMC Anime

Over Powered Main Character (OPMC for short): Is a genre of anime where the main character is more powerful then anyone else and thus never needs to train or anything else in order to win. This genre is not well known right now, but has always been extremely popular in manga and anime (Trigun for example was an OPMC anime), and is slowly gaining recognition.

Problem Children Are Coming From Another World Aren't They?

Theres more than one main character in this anime, but that doesn't stop Izayoi from standing out, a lot. Hes powerful, defeats people with ease, and loves fights. Whats more, him being awesome and OP does not distract from the great interesting story being told. As always the manga of this anime came first and its story continues past where the anime stopped, but that doesn't stop the anime from feeling fine where it stopped. Sure you want to know more about Izayoi, and uncover the secret of his immense power, but as I said, hes not a distracting character, there are two other main characters that you will love as well.

Irregular Magic High School

Onetruetatsuya a reddit group that more then proves just how awesome and OP Tatsuya is in this anime. This anime is all about Tatsuya and his life as an emotionless, super powered magician (due to his mother removing his emotions at birth). Some make the mistake of thinking hes weak in magic, but brilliant and thus makes the most out of what he has, that is wrong, his magic is super over powering to the point of his sister having a magic seal on him to hold his interference level down. The point is, Tatsuya is a genius, with a huge amount of power and every intention of using it with no emotional attachments (aside from his sister, his only emotion left was sibling love). This anime did not spawn from a manga surprisingly, and very few people have read the original material, the light novel (translation here). I have read the light novel, in fact I read the light novel before the anime came out, and the anime disappointed me. The anime cuts out more than half the information (internal dialogue of Tatsuya) which gives you insight into his character.

Kaze No Stigma

Kazuma is a decendent of a fire spirit wielding family, but is basically thrown away as his lack of ability to control the spirits is evident. This anime starts out when Kazuma is returning to Japan in his adulthood, not just as a spirit user, but as a wind spirit contractor the first contractor to be seen for thousands of years. Needless to say, hes powerful, and his character has a great back story (time between leaving family and coming back to japan), its sad, tragic, and yet full of happy memories. The other characters fill out the anime nicely, the crazy bitch girl who falls for him, the adorable little brother whos since of justice is even greater then his older brothers, and the old man trying to fix his daughter up with Kazuma. I like this anime a lot, but for some reason I feel like its out of place here, not sure why, but I had to include it.

Hagure Yuusha no Estetica

Akatsuki, stolen from his world by a well known phenomenon that wisps children away to other worlds, has become the great hero who defeated the demon lord of this other world, and returns back to his world as a super powered (though people underestimate him) adult. Oh, he also spirited away the demon lords daughter to his world with him without letting anyone know. Hes not the only one that returns, many have, theres even an organization that takes these people, and trains them (as if to be weapons in their world). Any way, Akatsuki pawns off the demon lords daughter as his sister, this whole "not really his sister" thing makes the ecchi moments easy to accept. Speaking of ecchi, theres a lot, its a really fun and enjoyable mix. The characters consist of pretty much all girls, with two exceptions but they rarely get screen time. The story is great, and makes you want to know all about these other worlds, and everything. Unlucky for us you will have to go to the Light novel to see what happens after the anime, its found here.

Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari

Familiar with the Tenchi Muyo series? Yep, this is another spin off of Tenchi Muyo, its subtle in its connections, but its there just enough to let you know. Kenshin is amazing, seriously, hes like the perfect guy in this series, what ever he does, he does perfectly (lol, even giving massages). Not only that, hes an expert swordsman, a pilot of a giant robot (males are rare to be able to), and hes from another world! The story is great, the world is interesting and unique, with a post apocalyptic history and ruins that contain great secrets to the downfall of that civilization. Theres some school life story here to, which is really fun as Kenshin is at first not a student, and the short time he is a student just further enhances are view of the world without distracting from everything else. I have not read any manga, or light novel for this anime, and saw no reason to look for any, as I love this anime.

Why Not This, or That?

SAO? Because its not something I felt like watching again and again, and though Kirito was powerful, he was annoying in other ways and the series didn't show enough of him being bad-ass.
Trigun? Because its well known and you have seen it (or better see it), its definally one of my top picks but is well known enough you are not looking for it.
Naruto/Bleach/One Piece/etc.? These are NOT O.P.M.C. anime, their main characters are NOT over powered, as they constantly get power ups and go through training, and even loss fights.

That all being said, yes there are other great O.P.M.C. anime out there not on this list, this list is only of five that I really love and watch again and again. There is no order to this list either.

Top Picks: Shoujo Manga.

Shoujo: Manga aimed at young (school age) women, usually depicting romance.

These are a bunch of my favorite Shoujo mangas. Theres no particular order, and no ratings as these are all the cream of the crop for me. The descriptions are short and sweet.

Love in the mask

The epic story of a girl from early childhood to adulthood. She begins in an orphanage, and not the happy kind, and even helplessly watched her close friend die. Soon after she is taken in by a wealthy family to be trained as a body guard for the young miss of the family. She was mistaken for a boy, however the head of the family gives her a chance, she must throw away being a girl from then on. Her life is particularly hard, and I don't recommend this for those looking for some light heart'ed comedy, you will cry, and not just the once. I read this with out putting it down, I just couldn't sleep thinking about what was going, and what might happen between the different characters.

Horimiya

This is the great high school love story between a boy who isn't what he seems, and the girl who tries desperately to hide what she really is like. Its a nice story, nothing crazy happens, no end of the world scenarios, or about to die plot twists, just a great story of two people. Its a smooth enjoyable read that I found myself going back and reading a second time because I simply wanted to. The main characters have great individuality's and the way the two mesh is kinda refreshing, the main boy at school is so average (even thought to be an otaku), but out of school he lets loose his hair, puts in earrings, and shows off his tattoos. The main girl, the popular school idol, loved and known by everyone, but at home shes a house wife type, cooking, cleaning, shopping (coupons). She takes care of her little brother and has no time for anything. These two make for a wonderful story, its ongoing, but so far its not to long.

Kaichou Wa Maidsama

I dont think anyone looking for good shoujo hasn't heard of this one. This is one of the best shoujo out there, it even has an anime released by the same name. I dont think I need to mention anything from the anime here, ill skip those bits, but the manga on the other hand goes far beyond the story of the anime. Our two main characters grow closer than ever as the face Usui's hardships. This manga is kinda of an adventure. Oh and if you havent watched the anime... DO IT.

Skip Beat

Another one of the biggies out there, super well known and amazing story (yes even better than Kaichou wa maidsama). There is an anime released for this one as well, and I do recommend it, it follows the manga pretty well. However, just like so many others, the anime is not the full story. This manga is ongoing still, and the story already reaches far out from the anime. Notice the pic, its from a part that's not in the anime. This story follows many of the same trends found in the anime, but the story starts to show A LOT more about Ren and his past. We even get to see Kyokos fairy prince return (yea, she noticed, he came up with a hilarious reason involving magic for looking like Ren).

Tokyo Rock Shounen/Nousatsu Rock Shounen

This is a bit unknown, and kinda niche. I love it, its a hidden identity story involving a high school rock star. The first (tokyo rock) is like a one shot, the second (nousatsu rock) is like the full story, and I think it even includes tokyo rock as its first chapter(s). The whole "ugly" duckling turned swan bit in this manga is seen often, but its great to see it done with a male and not a female this time around. Plus he has a great personality that makes him fun to watch. The girl is fairly average, but is a good person, her helping him when hes being bullied is what sparks this romance. Its a nice little manga, short, but very enjoyable.

Dengeki Daisy

Another great hidden identity shoujo, but his reason here is far darker in nature. Daisy, the name of a person who has looked out for the main girl, after her brother died. Daisy, is an expert hacker and shows off his skills when its needed to protect her during her high school days. She talks to Daisy almost daily, and always tells him her problems, almost like her human diary. They communicate via emails (text messages). You learn his identity fairly early in the manga, and get to see things from each of their points of views, its fun and interesting dynamic. Dont worry, it doesn't take till the end of the manga for her to find out who Daisy is, but what will she do when she learns the connection Daisy has to her big brothers death? Guess you will need to read it to learn about it.

Beast Master

Another niche type shoujo thats not well known, but that I love. Its short, and follows the story of a savage like boy (his face is super scary) who returns to japan after living in Africa for years. He is loved by animals, and is animal like himself, he is fiercely protective of the main girl who he comes to love. The story follows the "taming" of this wild boy, and facing the problems of his past (people trying to kill him). Its a sweet little love story, with a scary looking, but super nice and loving guy, and the girl who scares off all animals (she was first attracted to him because animals just came up to him).
