Gaming PCs On A Budget

I am sick and tired of people asking for a gaming computer and others responding that it will cost a thousand or more dollars to get one. Bullshit. It will cost almost three hundred to get one that can run almost any game at an ok frame rate (usually around 30fps or more). Here im going to walk you through it part by part, where to get them, general warnings/info and notes. No bullshit, I built my current PC for around three hundred a year or two ago, I still play everything on it without a problem.

Base Start Point

You need to get a hold of a pre-configured whole pc, something with an ok cpu. Im not going to get into the amd/intel fight, or try to explain whats good, whats not instead ill just give you basic guidelines on what your looking for (btw, EBAY is great spot for used whole PCs for cheap).

What Your Looking For
ebay category search here (more specific search below)
-3ghz dual core or better cpu (intel i3 are good cheap gaming cpus)
-4gb or more or ddr3 ram (4gb is a bit low, but easy and cheap to upgrade ddr3 ram search here)
-Size of case (needs to be a tower, not a mini/thin size desktop)
-Expect to spend about 100-170 here, as its everything you need minus the gpu (unless you need a different power supply).
NOTE: Keep in mind, your PSU needs to be around 500w to power your gpu.
Tip: Learn to use ebay. Check the auctions, arrange to show ending soonest. Then check buy it now, and arrange to show lowest price first! Pre-made link to screen for above items here

GPU

For a budget gpu, you go amd all the way, no doubts about that. Again, not going into specifics or anything.
I am using a now super cheapo GTX 460 (here) which runs about 50 dollars right now on ebay (some placed as low as 30) but I recommend something a bit beefier like the R9 270x (here which will run about 120 dollars. You can always look for your own using mine as bookmarks for performance here. On that page you can choose the standard tier of graphics card, on the far right of each bar in the graph you will see a dollar value, thats the price last reported for the graphics card (you can assume price will be lower on ebay). Just use your trusty "CTRL+F" and search for GTX 460 or the 270x and see whats close to it that and do your search/shopping.

The bigger problem is whether or not the pc you picked in the first step has a PSU (power supply) that supports your graphics card.

Power Supply

Now, if your graphics card needs a better power supply, maybe because your pc came with stock PSU and thus it doesn't have have enough power, or maybe not the right cables, then we need to shop for a cheap decent 500w PSU (500w should handle everything without a problem, but larger will allow for more upgrade room in future).

Ok, So What Do I Do??
Don't worry, or feel a shamed, we have all been here, and best of all if you know what graphics card you plan to get, others have done the work for you.
To find a good PSU for your graphics card, all you need to do is google "cheap good PSU" with the name of your graphics card, for example "cheap good psu r9 270x", yea, simple, but you wont believe the number of people who don't know how to use google out there. With that you should find a post somewhere where someone asked a question about your GPU and PSU needs and got answers.

This PSU should cost you about 40-50 dollars on ebay.

That's it people, with that you have a gaming rig, for about 300 dollars depending on your luck/choices.
Its not water cooled, it doesn't glow (if yours does your one lucky *****), and it might look horrible, but hey, you can play some awesome games and still have enough cash to buy those fancy games.

Mabinogi

"Mabinogi has ruined other mmorpgs for me."

This game is old, old enough I even played it in high school. It also happens to STILL be the best MMORPG out there, and its F2P. Why the best you ask? Oh, its nothing much, just its constant updates, events, unique combat system, great shop system, fun social interactions, TONS OF APPEARANCE ITEMS (im not fing joking here, theres no two characters that look alike, hell I rarely see two people wearing the same shit), its unique lvl system, unique skill system (including life skills, which can lvl you as fast if not faster than combat), make your own music and... oh god, just play the game already.

I get bored of Mabinogi, no doubts there as I get bored of anything after a while, and I just keep coming back to it. I have played tons of other mmorpgs, iv tried tera, iv tried vindictus (mabinogi heros btw, its a sequal to mabinogi), iv watched reviews on rift, so on so forth. The fact is
Mabinogi has ruined other mmorpgs for me.
. WHY? Because I cant stand just clicking on stuff anymore, like ruinscape or wow, or almost every damn stupid MMORPG out there (notice, i said almost, ha). I mean it, Mabinogi has so much to do and so many unique interesting systems and parts, theres nothing else out there that comes close.

Combat

So I now skip any game where the combat is "click on this mob", "click on these skill boxs" repeat. In mabinogi the combat is not super fps action, but is a clever change to the standard mmo, many call it a rock paper scissors type system, but thats not right, as there are far many more ways to fight then that entails. Abilities/skills are target based, you can lock on, but many abilities will still need to be with in range. Plus lock on is more for convince because as the mob moves around you might find it hard to click as you move to dodge it. Its hard to explain, but I think you get by now that its pretty interesting.

World

I also cant stand linear games anymore, games that force you to certain areas using their various tricks (mob levels, level requirements, etc.). In mabinogi you can, at lvl one, right as you enter the world, GO ANYWHERE, jump over to the other continent, go site seeing on a hot air balloon (yea, not joking), or poke fun at a elephant. Yes, there are strong creatures out there, but its not like endless fields of monsters where YOU MUST run into them to get past, the mabinogi world is super huge, and open. Best I can compare it to is skyrim or oblivion in terms of openness (and yes, even size its close). Also its not like the only monsters you can fight are in area, there are strong AND weak mobs all over the world, its made for exploration for any level. The world is filled with dungeon instances, open world mobs, theres shadow missions, castles, residential areas (where players have houses) and TONS to discover and explore.

Leveling

Now lets get the leveling system of mabinogi, which is one of the most unique systems ever. There is no level cap. None, nada, nothing. The sky is not the limit. Mabinogi has a rebirthing system, where you can, every week, have your character reborn to reset the level, oh and age (yes, your character ages, and visually gets taller and bigger as they grow). So what does this do? Each level nets you some AP, which is your skill points. These points are used to level a skill. You can rebirth any number of times (im on like 40 now and level 2000 or so). OHHHH, but wait, you cant level them till you train them!

Skills

Skills do not simply get better because you leveled up and put points into it. Instead its a fun system like skyrim or oblivion where you must use the skill, but they make it even better. Lets say you are ranking defense (its a skill, there is a def stat but this is kinda like a defense stance your taking), it will say something like "defend against 10 melee attacks" for the lowest rank or something. As you rank it, it will start adding in "defend against 10 arrow attacks" then magic, then some other stuff like attacking a defending creature, and even require you to do all those things but with stronger monsters. Now when you start ranking stuff like sword wielding you can kinda understand what that means. Also, combat is not everything in mabinogi, its a small part. There are TONS of non combat skills, and as you rank them, you gain stats (you gain stats with combat skill ranking to), these stats can boost your character! However it gets even better, just like the open world, your skill system is open, there are no classes!

Classes

Yea, yea, i just said there are no classes, and that true, but they did add in destiny's. A destiny can be chosen each time you rebirth, so you can switch every week, so no worries. A destiny is not a class per say, it does not force you to use certain skills, or block others from you. All it does is give you double training rate for skills associated to a set destiny, so you have to do half the work ranking those skills. Now remember those life skills I talked about before? Well, there are destiny's for life skills to, in fact there are a lot. They are not bundled with combat skills or anything like that, you have to understand life skills are as important as combat in this game. Also, yes life skills will give you exp and level you just as well as combat could.

Quests

Quests, again, are like everything else in Mabinogi, open and free. The starter quests are your standard quests, run here do that, run here do that, do this, do that. The main story quests are great, and they come in whats called Generations. These generations also happen to be big updates to the game. Each generation is different, though a few are linked together. Like there are generations that deal with Shakespeare and his plays, generations that deal with the history of different NPCs. Generations where you fight dragons, ones where you fight the grim reaper, ones where you face off against gods. This game has it all. Theirs not just the main story's quests, theirs side quests, hunt quests, and many others you can find, including skill quests to unlock certain powerful skills, like a transformation skill that can turn you into a Black knight, or a paladin for a time, with huge increases to stats and special skills.

Equipment

YESYESYESYES! Open and free system for equipment. With the exception of a few cloths/armor/weapons that require you to master a set skill set (like warrior, or archer) you can equip anything, even if you are not using that destiny, it doesn't matter. There are no level requirements, or stat restrictions, you can start the game and day one have a friend hand you a super powerful weapon. But I must add, even that weapon wont help you as a lvl 1 noob. Your skills and knowing how to use them determine your strength more than anything. Most people don't wear armor except if they have a set that looks good, or are going into hardcore combat. Most people enjoy looking stylish and unique. I love this game a lot for its fashion, theirs so much that everyone looks special. You can even pick your friend out of a crowed without seeing their name.

Shops

There is no world auction house crap here (seriously the stupidest thing ever created). Here we have people actually setting up a square area in a town and putting their items up for sale. To find something you want you will have to go around the market and search (or be lucky and have a friend who frequents the market place). Its so fun to fine amazing deals, or find rare items this way. There is an auction board (and people selling using party system) but its best to go through shopping areas instead, as the prices tend to be lower.

Theres so much to this game, and I cant go through it all, seriously, this is not everything that is unique about this game.

2017 update
--------------------
The game was great, the game was awesome, the game was love. However the game is constantly updating to become whats considered "modern" more and more. Which means making players more and more OP, making less lore content and more wtf content, removing the social feel by making it "solo friendly", and making pretty much all social content alllmmmmooosttt pointless (see crafted materials/lifeskilling).... There is a private server out there, which is running an older build of mabi (though not old enough to avoid the annoying OPing of players), ill do a post on that later (mabi.pro). Oh and maybe a mabi moding post.

Shokugeki No Soma

Up front, I dont recommend this anime (though I do recommend the manga). Its not a cooking show, its a shounen battle manga, but with no actual battles, in their stead you get cooking. The cooking is fun, for the minute or half that you get to see it happening.

-STORY-

The story follows the manga decently, though it seems to speed up and slow down at its own pace making me want to skip around (I resisted). I think its because they try to hard to make the cooking LOOK like some kind of action, with weird visuals and other things which overall just ruins the overall feel of cooking in the anime.

-ART-

What can I say, it uses the new standard for art in anime, so it looks good, and has those extended food frenzy moments, but there's nothing super amazing that awes me.

-SOUND-

Again, like with how they do visuals for cooking, they added some kind of concert, or orchestra music that just doesn't fit with the cooking, like they tried to make it seem like a battle action anime. Its kinda annoying to me after the 3rd episode. To be fair it wasn't always like this, at the end of the first episode while talking with his father the music was very nice, and it followed in the beginning of the second episode. After looking back at the episodes I came to a conclusion, they use fast pace or actiony orchestra music when they want to give some kind of feeling of action or battle taking place, and that just doesn't work well into the anime.

-Character-

Theres a wide range of strange characters in this anime, but with 6 episodes in there's very little actually development of characters going on, and to be honest I don't think there will be much if any in the future, aside from possible the girl who almost fails in the beginning.

-ENJOYMENT-

I enjoy and love the F*** out of the manga, and I think ill go read it again today with all this thinking back to it. But the anime was annoying, with how they stretched it all out you rarely get to see much cooking (episode 1 and 2 should have been one episode). That said if you watch the first episode you might understand, you feel like there wasn't much that happened in it, and your right, it felt like you watched a 10 minute episode. But not because you lost yourself in it, but because when you think about it you dont know where those minutes where, there just wasn't enough happening to fill it.

-OVERALL-

The art and sound did not mesh well with one another as this should not have been treated as an "actiony" anime, but as a cooking one. The story and characters works fine, but its not something where I came to care about the characters, or whats happening at all, yes its only 6 episodes so far, but that's quite a few episodes. If it was 3 I can understand not caring even a little about anything, but 6? Overall the anime was all over the place but never where it should have been, like it was having an identity crisis.

-What You Need-

-Instructions For Use-

  1. Install both TSNotifier, and Teamspeak (order does not matter)
  2. Start up both Teamspeak and TSNotifier (again order does not matter)
  3. In Teamspeak, click "Settings" then "Plugins", on the right side insure that "TSNotifier Helper Plugin" is checked.
  4. Now start game you play with Teamspeak (with both Teamspeak and TSNotifier open)
  5. Once game has successfully booted up and running, close it.
  6. In system tray, right click TSNotifier icon and click "Edit gamesettings.ini..."
I know the file can be daunting to users not use to such things, dont worry, you wont break anything
  7. Scroll near the bottom (or use crtl+f) and search for your game's name in brackets (example, [[nosgoth.exe])
  8. Right below that ([nosgoth.exe]) you will see "game.enabled=0", change the 0 to a 1, so it will look like "game.enabled=1", this enables TSNotifier in it.
  9. Save, and then close everything.
  10. Restart Teamspeak and TSNotifier. Then start up your game.
  11. Enjoy how easy it is not to mix up andarius, arolust, and others.
