YouTube: Kurt Hugo Schneider

I stumbled upon this channel from Sam Tsui's channel (another channel I really like).

Its not just the music I like a lot, but the video editing. Seriously, most of the videos have this "in one shot" type style, where it feels like one continuous recording with no breaks or switches. Then theres the environments they use for the videos, outdoors, casual areas, living rooms, beautiful scenery, so on so forth, each video is a joy in sight and sound.

Top Picks: Korean Movies

Come on. You really dont need an explanation for this... They are movies...from korea...

Man From No Where

A few years ago I was on Netflix (a friends, I don't care for Netflix) and ran across this little jewel. The story is basically kid gets kidnapped, ex "soldier" goes on killing spree to save kid, its not that new, and Im sure everyone of use can think of another. Its a well done story, its dark, its dirty, and its fun and its sad (tears), its great. The MC is the silent type, but he is also the direct no compromising type (you know, the BADASS type), mix in an adorable little girl who's only parent is a drug addicted prostitute who clearly doesn't care that much for her, and you get gold.

The Thieves

LOL. I really didn't know what to expect from this, but within the first half hour its clear we were looking at something close to "The Italian Job" or Oceans movies. Then as the movie goes you get into it, you start to go with the wave and just when you get comfortable and think you know whats going to happen... BOOM! The movie throws you off big time, I mean, there I was enjoying myself, feeling the end approaching and the movies feeling drifting out of me slowly. Then I end up hearing myself say "Oh shit!!" totally did not expect what happened. Its an amazing movie, if you like the previous movies mentioned (Italian job and Oceans) then you definitely will enjoy this.

A Werewolf Boy

The best werewolf story ever, I love werewolves and there are far to few shows/movies depicting them in a truly enjoyable way. This movie brought a nice, subtle, hard reminder that not only are werewolves people to, but that they adorable. That really feels like the wrong word when describing a young boy of his age, but its just how he acts and everything, makes me think of someone much younger, which is clearly a result of his abandonment at a very young age. Theres not a lot of action, its not a chase film, or hunt one, its not a big adventure (at least in the common sense), its more slice of life, and that works.

Jeon Woo-chi: The Taoist Wizard

Ok, so finally I get around to a movie with magic. This was a fun movie, you first start off in ancient times, but soon they delightfully throw you into modern times. The MC's attitude about the time shift, and their "way" of doing things is often hilarious although it leaves you wanting even more of the same. The action/combat is good, seems more fun and laugh worthy than serious though. Finally the romance aspect found in here is a bit... I guess rushed? Or perhaps I just feel like they should have done more with it.

These are not all the Korean movies I enjoyed, and there might even be one or two I liked a ton that I forgot about when putting together this list, but these are all very good still. I admit, I need more Korean movies in my life.
You know, if you, or your friend, are not fond of subtitles (or don't speak Korean) you can always give the movie "Snowpiercer" a try.

Girls The Wilds

Manhwa: Basically can be considered manga originating from Korea.

Girls The Wilds

Oooohhhhhhhhh yeeeeaaaaaaaaaa...

Im going to be lazy with this one, so bear with me. Ok, this is a web comic so expect some long page scrolls (some sites split it up), like Noblesse. The story is fun, creative and though it lacks a bit of substance, this is a great story that I thoroughly enjoyed all the way through its currently released chapters. I love the characters, and the brash crazy mix of personalities which is what I think makes this manga so great. The main character isn't what you might expect either, and it doesn't ALWAYS follow the cliche drift of anime story telling, though it does at times, which is what makes me so happy when reading it. It feels fresh, it feels new, and it feels amazing.

The story is about your average guy (though as we come to find out is talented) who, abandoned by his parents and raising his two younger siblings, is given the chance to attend a high school close to where he lives on a full scholarship (yea, sounds dubious to you to huh?). So whats the catch? The school is an all girls school and he would be the first (and only) male student to attend. This alone would have been fine, but its also a school known for its martial arts as many of the students are long standing champions, trophy winners, and tournament participants. He of course says yes, as his tuition will be paid for and he could save a lot of money this way. The story continues to get better as the Principle of the school sets into action a scheme that has all the girls "noticing" him. Soon your following him in his assorted adventures befriending girls, and making enemies. In later chapters it tends to focus a lot less on the MC and more on the girls he meets and their lives.

Top Picks: OPMC Translations (Light Novels)

Over Powered Main Character (OPMC for short): Is a genre of anime where the main character is more powerful then anyone else. Usually avoiding the power up/training stages popular in shounen.

Death March kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku

Love Tama and Pochi, definitely my favorites.

ATM V13CH15. I read the web novel, not the light novel (I did try the light novel translation but... I did not like the changes, felt like they made it far to "generic"). The story is a nice slice of life story about a guy that is pretty much a god, its not about saving the world, or life and death, or any urgent event, its all about travel, inventing and fun. The main character does end up with a harem easily, but its a nice harem as the MC does not like "little girls" and has no real interest in anyone in his harem. Whats great is its proven true by his love found later on in story, which is the big break from a normal harem, thats what makes it so perfect. The girls are more like his family then anything, Tama and Pochi (my favorite little two) are like his daughters. The main characters "OP-ness" is obvious sort, the story reminds you often enough by his nonchalant attitude about things.

World Teacher

Our main character is the black haired one.

ATM CH.32. The biggest disappointment with this is the slow translation, its not that I blame or hate them for it, its just that Im dying for new chapters, d.y.i.n.g.. The story's main character is reincarnated, in his previous world he was an old well trained assassin (I think). In the new world the story follows him from... THE WOMB! Haha. Yes from birth. Its not bad, its actually very nice slow good start to story that introduces you to stuff. The main character uses his other world knowledge to train magic (imagine training) and his body. The best part of this series is the main characters maturity, he doesn't act like a kid, he even takes in two children and makes them his disciples (he was a teacher in the other world). The main character does have some restrictions that make him fall short of being a god, but his use of what magic he has makes him pretty close, which is great.

Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken

Can you pick out the MC from the pic???

ATM CH.120. Im still not finished with this one. Its your standard "I REINCARNATED INTO ANOTHER WORLD!!" story, if by standard you mean wake up as a monster not a human and have no idea wtf is going on. Its a nice change from standard stories of the same ilk, sadly though it devolves into a fairly standard story pretty far in. Its not that I dislike how the story becomes, as its still a good story with lots of world/city building and organization and event moderation (basically a slice of life alternate world type), but I miss how new and different it was in the beginning before it became basically like a normal "reincarnated as a human" type story. That said try it out, its probably my least liked of all the ones here but its still good. The story is mainly about learning new skills (learned same way as many others, by experiencing the skill), getting stronger (though he starts with an OP skill that makes him OP from start) and building a society. Its not to heavy on details concerning construction or technologies or anything really, so if you like details best stay away and pick up another, but if you like light hearted fantasy world building then this would suit you perfectly.

Yobidasa Reta Satsuriku-sha

Most amazing, badass, awesome hero summon story ever!

ATM CH.31. Like World Teacher, this one suffers from a lack of chapters, but it does have more than World Teacher, I still need to catch up. Now Im going to say, I have reread this twice so far, I really love the main characters personality, hes direct and to the point. I mean when summoned to another world the MCs first order of business is to put a sword to the throat of the summoner and threaten to kill for the crime of kidnapping him from his world. I don't do that scene justice, trust me its better than I describe. This story is all about the MC, any and everything he encounters only serves to be destroyed by him, or used by him, which is great, as his goal is to basically "improve" war and combat basically. Now, now, Im not saying he is heartless, he doesn't like killing innocent bystanders or anything, but if you attack him you die, if you get in his way he will warn you, then kill you. Hes simply a direct no bullshit MC who doesn't care what you think. That character attitude, that almost "bad guy" feel to the main character is the main reason I LOVE this. There is more to the story of course, theres some world building (the MC introducing his weapons/techniques and even technologies), and theres a steadily increasing harem (theres no romance or harem focus though).

The Man Picked up by the Gods

Sorry for the pic, theres really no illustrations for this.

ATM V4CH3. Long title, and it doesn't really properly depict the story within. Imagine the shittiest life possible, then imagine finally dying and being freed from it (in your sleep at that!), how nice would it be if some gods from the other world near by pick you to solve a little problem they have? Our MC gets the chance, and even meets the gods and has a discussion with them, hes not the first, nor will he be the last. They help him out with some gifts (abilities) but turns out he starts out with a huge amount already! The story is good, the MC is a bit childish and lacking but overall its more about what hes doing and other characters then himself. The main feature of this fantasy world story would be the MC using slimes for everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. Anyway, the story doesn't have a demon king (suppose to already be long and gone) or any other great overall arch, even the gods themselves tell the MC to live his life. The stories focus is on creation, building, being a business man comes to mind, though he really just invents new things and comes up with new ideas based on our world. The MC even keeps in contact with the gods, has a party with them every week (I think it was weekly anyway) and befriends them. Lots of details and thinking in this one, not a whole lot of combat (I think you might see a trend of OPMC novels).

Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou

Seems more fan art, when i read this light novel the MC looked more badass, and the tech (his arm) was more magical and medieval.

ATM CH.123. Starts slow, takes about five to ten chapters to really get to the good stuff. This story has a badass MC who will stop at nothing to protect those close to him, though that doesn't include his former classmates he came to the new world with. There is an overall story and sense of impending doom, despite the MC and his group ignoring it for the most part for their own goals. The story focuses more on adventure and travel so far, and a bit of side inventiveness, it was more the opposite in the beginning, but slowly switches later on. I must say that the most memorable lines from a character are from this translation, the character (not the MC) was being tortured for information (beaten) and instead of anything else he taunts the torturer calling him names, telling him why he punches like a little girl, telling him to do it harder, etc. Its hilarious and something I will always remember when ever I read or watch a torture scene anymore. The MC is OP more so for his inventions than his own abilities (though his own abilities are nothing to scuff at). The "OP-ness" of the MC drops off in later chapters, much to my disappointment, as new enemies seem to appear that cause trouble. Don't get me wrong, he keeps on ticking and comes back stronger, I just really hope its not the start of a standard trend of powering up, which would ruin the entire thing for me.

To keep up with all my current readings I use a combo of rainmeter rss I made, and a site which I plan to review at some point called Novel Updates. The site is also great for just finding new stuff to read. There are other light/web novels and translations I have read that should have made it to this small list, but I have trouble remembering some from before Novel Updates was discovered. That said stories often found on WuxiaWorld ARE NOT OPMC STORIES. Stuff like BTTH, ISSTH, ATG, TDG, these are more shounen, yes the are "OP" when compared to their own generation, but thats it, they still constantly need to power up, they constantly challenge new more powerful enemies and they even loss and run away at times.

Top Picks: Anime Torrent Sites

Anime torrent sites are easy access websites with torrent files that allow for file sharing of anime. This is the easiest way to assemble an anime collection, or find anime in high quality.

Bakabt

I destroyed my ratio on bakabt, it was my first anime torrent site, and my first private tracker. Oh the regrets...

I have been a long time user of bakabt, from my young days I incurred a horrible ratio and from that day on I had to make due with the public trackers. I do encourage everyone and anyone into anime to be a member of this site, even if you dont download, or torrent anime. This site has amazing fans and a good comment system, this means that you can find great info and opinions about different anime all while enjoying screen shots, and info regarding that anime. Thats not the only reason though, theres also the search system, which is the best I have ever seen, allowing me to find a ton of anime that I would have otherwise over looked. OMG, also because only members can upload, and because the site only accepts certain content/complete series THERE ARE NO FAKE TORRENTS/VIRUSES HERE.

As I said before, the anime pages (where you download from) have lots of info, but its still very easy to navigate. This torrent has one design for its page, with its own screen shots. On each download page you will find the torrent link at the top, as one big green bar with the torrent name and size inside.

While this one has a completely different design for its page and different screen shots. Not to mention that a series is broken up into seasons for easy to download chunks. Also, many season will have different qualities to choose from, like 720p, or 480p, or even 1080p sometimes can be found. Allowing you to choose which ever you need.

Nyaa

Nyaa has a "fap" section. Yea, your guess is right. Bakabt doesn't even try to hide it that much.

Nyaa is my go to place for ongoing anime releases/episodes. You can find batch releases and entire seasons of anime, but this place is better served to finding single episodes or movies, or the most recent releases. You can use the search function, but its best to first scroll down and click on a purple tag that says "Anime Sub", these are the eng subbed anime, by clicking this first you will show only eng subbed works, and then if you search it will search only the eng subbed worked instead of all the others (including other language subs). I'm not sure if I even have a Nyaa account, as you can download the turrents without one (and I never do use one). That said the site runs much like a normal torrent site, there are some fakes and bad turrets (though very few from what iv seen) the users are quick to clean up bad ones.

As you can see, it gives you a nice simple interface for torrent information. The description can include images, which is nice, but most uploaders dont use it (I imagine because this isnt a place you go to find new anime, so much as find things your already looking for).

Animetorrents

My least liked of the options here, found this while using asiatorrents.me, still prefer other options.

This site I have used rarely, mainly due to its association to Avistaz.to (previously asiatorrents.me) I tried it out. Its a good site, easy to search through, though its a private tracker and requires you to register (free). It works in a very similar way to Avistaz (if you have used it) and Bakabt, it tracks your upload and download and gives bonus points. It works like a poor version of Bakabt, with the exception of my favorite part being the latest torrents found near bottom of main page. Here it shows the latest torrents (lol yea I know "Duh"), but it shows them as images with title, category, seeds, and leachers displayed. If they allowed browsing this way then it might take me away from bakabt more, but it doesnt. Aside from that, the main reason I use this is for torrents bakabt has placed on their "do not upload" list.

Like I said previously, the site is kinda a watered down version of bakabt. The download page has the relevent information and pictures, including screenshots, and even has comments near bottom, but it does so in a much less aesthetically pleasing way and with much less customization.

haruhichan

Im really new to this one.

Not much to say here, im new to this site, but I am liking it so far. The main reason I use this site instead of sticking to my main staple of just Nyaa, and Bakabt (seriously I use them all the time) is because this site allows for simple single episode download while at the same time putting all the different episodes together. It still gives your basic information for the anime, and offers different resolution choices. A feature that separates this is the IRC downloading, its done in a simple and easy to access way, which allows for an almost direct download type option.

The search is what was missing from Animetorrents, its a full anime list with pictures, sadly many pictures are missing but its still fun to look through, and a great help when searching for something familiar without looking through each page. When you use the search box and type in say "Gundam" it will popup all anime with the word "Gundam" in it, and shows them as pictures as it normally does.

The single funnest part of using this site, the calendar. Though im not sure when, or how they update or pick which anime to show on the chart, what I do see is a nice number of listings of popular and new anime with a countdown till torrent release, WITH PICS! Yes, I realize Im obsessed with the pictures. Plus when you click on an anime on the calendar, it will open (in a separate window) the anime torrent page for easy download.
